GRAMVOUSA
Gramvousa Island, Crete, Greece
Latitude: 35° 35' 59.99" N // Longitude: 23° 34' 3.59" E
The island of Gramvousa is located one hour long ferry ride from Kissamoss port alongside steep cliffs of Kórikos peninsula. Due to curving coastline and surrounding cliffs the waters around are calm and warm. As reaching the deserted island, the colour of water slowly change its shade from velvet deep blue into gleaming clear turquoise. Ferry will leave you on the south side of the island with two large bays, rusty shipwreck in between them and high rocky stairs leading to old Venetian fortress on top. Unfortunately you won't be here alone, but this uninhabited island will still provide you with rare tranquil feeling when diving in its waters.
Traveler note: To Gramvousa beach is possible to get only by boat. If not private one, you need to take ferry from Kissamoss port (where you can get by bus or car). One return ticket costs 27 EUR and includes ride to Gramvousa and Balos. Ferry leaves only two or three times a day, last ferry around 1 p.m. Bus connections and timetables to Kissamos port (it needs to be to port specifically as city of Kissamos is quite far from there) can be easily found on www.e-ktel.com Crete Public Bus Service.
